A Definition of Structural Engineering from Professor Michael Collins

Professor Michael Collins of the University of Toronto gives us this definition of structural engineering in the podcast "Big Ideas." The lecture is called "In Search of Elegance."
Structural engineering is the art of molding materials we do not really understand into shapes we cannot really analyze so as to withstand forces we cannot really assess in such a way that the public does not really suspect.

Any thoughts about how this reflects on software engineering?
